Jerry Bowersock picks up $1,500 win at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex During Dave Purdin Auto Sales Customer Appreciation Night Fly-In
By: Mike Ross
(Peebles, Ohio) An early evening shower, followed by overcast skies and occasional light sprinkles left many people wondering if the nights scheduled events would go on as planned. When it was realized the track personel efforts to get the track back to racing condition wouldn't be in vain, a quick drivers meeting was called to inform the racers that had waited out the weather for nearly two hours that the Dave Purdin Auto Sales Customer Appreciation night would in fact go on as planned. Although the start had been delayed for nearly two hours fans were still treated to the full racing program and a huge fireworks show.
Wapakonetta, Ohio's Jerry Bowersock drove the Central Star Drilling, America's Best Value Inn sponsored Marshall Cambell Race Engines powered Rocket Chassis to the late model feature win. Jenera, Ohio's Clint Jamison drove the Central Star Drilling, North Star Drilling, Marshall Cambell Race Engines, Lightning Chassis to the modified feature win. Flemengsburg, Kentucky's Mitchel Fields drove the Fleming Tractor & Equipment, McCormick Flemengsburg, KY sponsored Doug Fields Race Engines powered Chevette to the Chevette/4 cylinder feature win. Maysville, Kentuky's Jeremie Bretz drove the Doug's Glass, Hazel's Knotty Pine, Git-R-Done Graphic Designs, The Sweat Shop, Heim Construction, Trace Creek Construction, Jeff Flaugher sponsored bomber to the bomber feature win. Tony Steffen drove the Waterlang Graphic sponsored legend to the feature win. While Peebles Ohio's Matt Nichols picked up the trophy 4 cylinder dash win and West Union, Ohio's Steve Duederstadt beat the clock to claim the spectator rookie of the year title.
Jerry Bowersock and Larry Martin Jr. brought the late model feature field to the green. The action was quickly slowed when fourth starting Marty Huntley and outside front row starter Larry Martin Jr. got together in turn one bringing out the caution. Huntley retired to the pits and the rest of the field lined up for the restart. On the restart, Bowersock jumped out to the early lead with Weasel Rhoads in tow. Rhoads continued to pressure Bowersock for the lead until a lap three caution for Shane Nengangard who spun in turn two. On the restart, Bowersock pulled to a five car length lead over Weasel Rhoads, Brian Day, Larry Martin Jr. and Casey Vitale. Over the next three laps Rhoads would run down front runner Bowersock challenging him for the lead on lap seven. Rhoads would try to complete an inside pass on Bowersock over the next three laps, but Bowersock would maintain a slight advantage when the action was slowed on lap ten when Barry Doss spun in turn two. On the restart, Bowersock and Rhoads pulled to a slight lead over the rest of the field. Rhoads continued to pressure Bowersock for the lead when the action was slowed with a lap twelve caution when Casey Vitale rolled to a stop, just inside of the track in turn four. On the restart, Rhoads once again began to pressure Bowersock for the lead. Over the next eight circuits of the 1/3 mile oval Rhoads applied heavy pressure to Bowersock, but Bowersock would hold on to pick up the late model feature win. Following Bowersock and Rhoads across the line were Brian Day, Larry Martin Jr., and Mark Morrison rounding out the top five.
Mike Gross and Clint Jamison brought the modified feature field to the green. Jamison jumped out to the early lead over Gross, Johnathon Day and Rob LeMaster. Jamison continued to stretch his lead until a lap four caution for Rob LeMaster who spun on the back stretch. On the restart, Jamison once again began to put some distance between himself and Gross. Jamison continued to stretch his lead over Gross until Johnathon Day and Dave Jamison got together on the back stretch on lap five, bringing out the caution. On the restart, Clint Jamison began to pull away from Gross, Rob LeMaster, and Lonnie Kidd. Jamison cruised to his first modified feature win. Following Jamison across the line were Mike Gross, Rob LeMaster, Lonnie Kidd, and Chris Shelton rounding out the top five.
Josh Collins and Mitchel Fields brought the chevette/4 cylinder feature field to the green. Fields jumped out to the early lead over Eric Dearing and Josh Collins. Fields and Dearing began to pull away from the field in the early going leaving everyone else to battle it out for third. Fields was able to maintain a slight lead over Dearing as the two began to work lapped traffic. Working through lapped traffic with ease Fields cruised to the feature win. Following Fields and Dearing across the line were Josh Collins, Chris Holleran, and Tim Gray rounding out the top five.
Mark Keatzel and Jeremie Bretz brought the bomber feature field to the green. Bretz jumped out to the early lead with Mark Keatzel and Roy York in tow. As Keatzel and York battled for second Bretz was able to pull to a five car length lead over the duo. Finally with Keatzel cleared on lap three, York could now set his eyes on front runner Bretz. Over the next three circuits of the 1/3 mile oval York would slowly cut into the advantage Bretz had gained in the early stages. While York was slowly running down Bretz, the man on the move was thirteenth starting Robbie Lewis quickly moving to third by lap six. However, with the race going green for the entire way he would not catch the two front runners by the time the checkered flag waved. Bretz held off York to pick up the feature win. Following Bretz and York across the line were Robbie Lewis, Mark Keatzel, and John Louderback rounding out the top five.
