By: Mike Ross
(Peebles, Ohio) Brushcreek Motorsports Complex held its annual "Kids Night" on Saturday June 9th. While fans were treated to the usual thrills and spills of Saturday night short track racing, this night was for the kids. Special activities for "Kids Night" included the Max Real Estate Company moon bouncer and basketball game, a water balloon toss, bicycle giveaways, a faculty race and a school bus jump. Daniel Thompson and Sarah McIlwain took home bikes donated by Jeasus Motorsports outreach, while Wesley Bentley and Morgan Huffman took home bikes given away by Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Faculty members from the surrounding area schools took part in a special race to raise money for a school organization of their choice. Steve White of the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center (OVTC) won the $500 donated by Southern Hills Therapy. Peebles Ohio's Gary Rowland thrilled the large crowed when he successfully jumped a stock school bus over two cars.

Orab, Ohio's Dan Hurt drove his Hower's Discount, Hower's Garage, Speed Weasels Performance Warehouse, Crosstown Carryout, Country Inn, Butter Bee's Grill, Skyline Chilli, Warrior Chassis to the late model feature win. Decatur, Ohio's Brian Day and West Union, Ohio's Marty Huntley brought the late model feature field to the green. Huntley jumped out to the early lead, but the action would quickly be slowed by a caution when Day looped his Rocket Chassis in turn two. On the restart, Huntley one again shot to the lead. As the front trio of Huntley, Kevin Schoonover, and Dan Hurt began to close in on the slower car of Ed Eshmann on lap four, disaster stuck. Eshmann's power plant went sour dumping oil on the track right in front of the front runners. As the caution flag waved for Eshmann the trio hit the oil sending Huntley Huntley spinning in front of Schoonover and Hurt. All three cars would come to rest in turn four. Huntley wouldn't be able to continue as result of the damage his Swartz Chassis received when it hit the turn four wall. On the restart, Kevin Schoonover pulled to a three car length lead over Hurt. Hurt continued to chase Schoonover until the action was slowed with a lap nine caution when Brian Day spun in turn two. On the restart Schoonover once again pulled out to a slight lead over Hurt. Hurt would pressure leader Schoonover over the next three laps until finally sliding by on lap twelve. The action would be slowed for the final time on lap twelve when Schoonover spun on the back stretch. On the restart, Dan Hurt pulled to a slight lead over Terry Smart, Russ Frohnaphel, and Joel Ortberg. Hurt would hold off Terry Smart over the final laps to pick up his first ever Brushcreek Motorsports Complex feature win.
Verona, Kentucky's David McWilliams and Bethel, Ohio's Steve Leonard brought the modified feature field to the green. McWilliams jumped out to the early lead. McWillaims continued to hold a slight lead over Leonard until the action was slowed on lap four when Greg Truster spun in turn two after contact from Joe Hunley. Hunley would be charged with the caution and sent to the tail. On the restart, David McWilliams continued to hold a slight lead over Leonard who was now receiving pressure from fifth starting Rick Hensley. The action was once again slowed by a caution when Joe Hunley spun in turn four. On the restart, David McWilliams continued to maintain a slight lead, while Hensley made a move to the inside of Leonard to take over second. However, the action would quickly be slowed by a caution when Rick French spun in turn two before the lap was complete. On, the restart McWilliams continued to maintain a slight lead over Leonard and Hensley. Hensley pressured Leonard over the next three laps before finally sliding by to take over second on lap ten. The action would be slowed by a caution on lap twelve when Eric Shepherd spun in turn two. On the restart Hensley and McWilliams shot into turn one side by side. Hensley would emerge from turn two with a slight lead over McWilliams. McWilliams would fight back and emerge from turn four with a slight lead over Hensley. The two would continue to swap the lead until the action was slowed for the final time on lap fifteen when Brett Kennard and Eric Shepherd got together in turn four to bring out the caution. On the restart Hensley maintained a slight lead over McWilliams. As the two came trough turn four McWilliams would slide by Hensley to reclaim the lead. McWilliams held off the strong charge of Hensley over the final laps to pick up the win. Following McWilliams and Hensley across the line were Steve Leonard, Dave Jamison, and Darren Dryden rounding out the top five.
West Union, Ohio's Taylor Grooms and Hillboro Ohio's Kent Knoblauch brought the chevette/4cylinder race to the green. Taylor Grooms jumped out to the early lead flollowed by Branden Elam, Kent Knoblauch and Dave Hostetler. Grooms would stretch his lead over Elam during the first five laps. The caution waved when Elam slowed to a stop with mechanical problems on lap six. On the restart, Grooms once again began to pull away from the field leaving Dave Hostetler and Tom Partin to battle it out for second. Grooms cruised to his second straight chevette/4cylinder feature win. Following Grooms across the line were Tom Partin, Dave Hostetler, Matt Nichols, and J.McClanahan rounding out the top five.
