John Powell Jr. Bags Jesus Motorsports Outreach Bomber Shoot Out at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex

(Peebles, Ohio) Thirty-eight bombers signed into the pits on a warm Saturday afternoon, all with hopes that by the time the night ended they could be the one to claim the $800 top prize at the Jesus Motorsports Outreach Bomber shoot Out sponsored by Central Star Drilling, D & R Engineering, Jesus Motorsports Outreach, OK Auto Parts, Huntley's Napa Auto Supply, James Harsha Co. State Farm Insurance Agent Tony Staggs, Truitt's Auto Body, Rarden Fire Department, John & Bev Daulton, Kholton Greene, RHK Motors, Community Fuels, Brian Pertuset Custom Homes, and Jeff Arnold Construction.
As the warm afternoon sun faded into the cool September night, the action heated up on the 1/3 mile speed plant just outside Peebles Ohio. Guysville, Ohio's John Powell Jr. picked up the Jesus Motorsports Outreach Bomber Shoot Out feature win. Manchester, Ohio's Mark Morrison drove the Blythe's Body Shop, Dave Purdin Auto Sales sponsored Swartz chassis to the late model feature win. Sardina, Ohio's Weasel Rhoads drove the Joe Stricker owned Speed Weasels Performance Parts Warehouse, KOI Auto Parts, Croppper Race Engines powered Bob Pierce Race Cars modified to the modified feature win. Oak Hill, Ohio's Mike Stickland drove the F&J Tire, Lakeview Auto Sales, Mike Sark Logging, Mike's Heavy Equipment Repair sponsored Oldsmobile Calais to the chevette/4 cylinder feature win. Peebles, Ohio's Matt Nichols picked up the trophy 4 cylinder dash win, while Byron Stowe picked up the legend feature win and Eric Taylor won the enduro race.
Maysville, Kentucky's, Jeremie Bretz and Chillicothe, Ohio's Kyle Payne brought the Jesus Motorsports Outreach Bomber Shoot Out feature field to the green. Bretz jumped out to the early lead and held the point until lap three when fifth starting John Powell Jr. made the pass to claim the top spot. The action was slowed with a lap five caution when Shane Newman spun in turn one. On the restart, Powell was able to maintain a slight advantage over Bretz. The two front runners continued to run nose to tail as the action heated up behind them. The action was slowed with a lap eleven caution for Matt Edmisten who went over the back stretch. On the restart, Bretz would take a look under Powell but Powell was able to maintain a slight advantage. The action was slowed on lap twelve when Tommy Mossbarger lost an engine, igniting a small fire under his mount. On the restart, Bretz would take another look under Powell. Powell would maintain a slight advantage as the action was slowed on lap fourteen when John Rayburn spun coming out of turn four bringing out the final caution. On the restart, Bretz would try to make the move under Powell but was unable to complete the pass. Powell and Bretz would run nose to tail over the next four circuits as Jamey Adam s closed in on the two front runners. Over the final two circuits Adams and Bretz battled for second as Powell pulled to a four car length lead. As Powell took the checkered flag Adams and Bretz come out of turn four side by side with Adams pulling to a slight advantage as the duo came to the line. Following John Powell Jr. and Jamey Adams across the line were Jeremie Bretz, Jim Hilterbran, and Kyle Payne rounding out the top five.
Sardina, Ohio's Weasel Rhodes and West Union, Ohio's Paul Moore brought the late model feature field to the green. Rhodes jumped out to the early lead over Danial Kattine, Darran Kattine, and Mark Morrison. The action was slowed on lap four when Brian Arnet rolled to a stop on the back stretch. On the restart, Rhoads maintained his advantage over Danial Kattine, Darran Kattine, and Mark Morrison. Rhoads continued to build on his lead until the action was slowed with a lap six caution when Paul Moore spun to the infield. On the restart, Rhoades maintained the lead over Danial Kattine, Mark Morrison, and Darran Kattine. As Mark Morrison looked under Danial Kattine for second, Rhoads suffered mechanical problems slowing to a stop in turn one while leading the race. On the restart, new leader Danaial Kattine held off Morrison as the action was slowed with a caution when Paul Moore and Mike Myers made contact in turn four. On the restart, Chuck Simmons spun in turn two bringing the caution back out. On the restart, Kattine would hold off Morrison going into turn one but Morrison would fight back making the pass for the lead coming out of turn four. Morrison would hold off Kattine over the final laps to pick up the feature win. Following Mark Morrison and Danial Kattine across the line were John Yazell Jr., Anthony Day, and Chuck Simmons rounding out the top five.
Sardina, Ohio's Weasel Rhoads and Waverly Ohio's Mike Long brought the modified feature field to the green. Rhoads jumped out to the early lead over Brian Whiteman, Mike Long, Davey Warnock and Dave Jamison. The action was slowed with a lap two caution when Brad White spun collecting Justin Maddox, Rob LeMaster, and Mike Gross. On the restart, Rhoads continued to hold a slight advantage over Whiteman, Long and Warnock. The action was slowed on lap three when Chris Howard spun on the back stretch on lap three. On the restart, Rhoads continued to hold a slight lead over Whiteman, Long and Warnock. The action was slowed with a lap four caution when Johnathon Day spun in turn two. On the restart, Rhoads maintained a slight lead as Long and Warnock were able to get around Whiteman. Rhoads continued to hold the point when the caution waved for Kelly Lippert who spun coming out of turn four. While under caution second place runner Mike Long would head pit side ending his night. On the restart, Rhoads pulled to a slight lead over Davey Warnock, Brian Whiteman, Sean Schobelock, and Dave Jamison. Rhoads continued to lead the race when the time limit expired ending the race. Following Rhoads and Warnock across the line were Brian Whiteman, Sean Schobelock, and Dave Jamison rounding out the top five.
Oak Hill Ohio's Mike Strickland and Oak Hill Ohio's Darrell Lunsford brought the chevette/4 cylinder feature field to the green. Strickland jumped out to the early lead over Mitchel Fields, Darrell Lunsford, and Alan Stickland. Mike Stickland continued to stretch his lead as Fields, Alan Strickland and Darrell Lunsford battled for second in the caution free event. Mike Strickland cruised to the feature win. Following Mike Stickland and Mitchel Fields across the line were Alan Strickland, Darrell Lunsford, and Justin Holleran rounding out the top five.
In the Legend feature Tom Partin took advantage of his inside front row starting position, vaulting to the early lead over Byron Stowe, Matt Nichols, and Grady Moore. Partin held the point for the first two circuits until Stowe made the move around him on lap three. Now in front Stowe would hold off several challenges from Partin over the next seven laps to pick up the feature win. Following Stowe and Partin across the line were Matt Nichols, and Grady Moore.
Brushcreek Motorsports Complex will be having a Mud Sling on Friday Sept. 7. The Mud Sling will consist of mud runs, truck tug-a-war and a hill climb. Regular racing action will return to Brushcreek Motorsports Complex Saturday October. 6 with the season closer. All regular classes will be on tap for the season closer. These classes include late models, modifieds, Chevette/4 cylinder, trophy 4 cylinders, legends, and bombers. There will also be an enduro race on October 6.
