“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” a popular phrase that comes to mind that best describes the Sunday afternoon at Jackson County Speedway. After a year long hiatus Jackson County Speedway re-opened its doors to the smiles of devoted fans thankful of the re-opening. It was however somewhat of a dismal day, with a total car count of 14. That 14 consisting of 5 modifieds, 6 street stocks, 1 mod-lite, 1 pure stock and 1 4cyl stock.
Although the car count was lacking the action wasn’t. In the Modified A-Main, Doug Adkins jumped to the lead from his outside starting position and began to open a three car length advantage over JP Roberts until lap number three when Adkins would come to a stop in turn four. It seemed that a component in the left rear suspension broke ending the mount of the number 7 entry. JP Roberts would inherit the lead and continued to press ahead as Roy Johnson and Bob Mapes began a torrid battle for the second position. As Johnson was working the low line Mapes found a line a car length and a half above Johnson and began to overtake Johnson. For several laps Mapes would work that line and go door to door with Johnson until lap 15 when Mapes would make the pass. The following lap Mapes would bobble in turn four and relinquish the position back to Johnson. At the line it would be JP Roberts, Roy Johnson, Bob Mapes, Doug Adkins (DNF) and Roger French (DNS). Notes: French would hot lap his number 57f entry but was unable to continue in the heat and feature. After the checker flew Roberts would slam hard into the turn three guardrail resulting from a stuck throttle.
In the Street Stock feature Adrian Doles would lead the field to the green as he would enter turn one in the lead. On lap three Brandon Thompson would overtake Rob Smith for the second position and begin to reel in Doles. On the seventh circuit Doles would bobble and leave the door wide open for Thompson, in turn, Thompson kindly accepted the greeting to complete the pass. Doles would try everything to regain the lead but Thompson would have none of it as he would begin to pull in the waning laps. At the line it was Brandon Thompson, Adrian Doles, Zach Adkins, Steve Noble, Rob Smith (DNF), Brad Roe (DNF) and Bruce Gray Jr. (DNS). Notes: As French did in the Modified division so would Bruce Gray Jr. in the street stock division, only completing hot laps before ending his night. Steve Noble, the only pure stock entry, decided to try his luck in the street stock division and come home fourth.
