Dowdy Holds off Wagner to Claim Brushcreek Motorsports Late Model Feature Win
(Peebles, Ohio) Brushcreek Motorsports Complex held its annual "Kids Night" on Saturday June 7th. While fans were treated to the usual thrills and spills of Saturday night short track racing, this night was for the kids. Special activities for "Kids Night" included a nitro race car demonstration, the Racers in Christ inflatable jump house, the Max Real Estate Co. inflatable slide and Moon Bouncer, face painting and the flying fat man jumping two buses.
South Shore, Kentucky's Butch Dowdy drove his Rocket Chassis to the late model feature win. Peebles, Ohio's Mike Gross drove his Bob Pierce Chassis to the modified feature win. Winchester, Ohio's John Gutman picked up his third straight legend feature win. Tommy Mossbarger picked up the bomber feature win. While Oak Hill, Ohio's Mike Strikland took another Chevette/4 cylinder feature win and Peebles, Ohio's Matt Nicols took his fourth straight trophy 4 cylinder dash win.
South Shore, Kentucky's Butch Dowdy and Winchester Ohio's Scott Edmisten brought the late model feature field to the green. Dowdy emerged from turn one with the lead followed by Edmisten, Kevin Wagner, Joe Ramey, and Clint Jamison. Dowdy continued to hold the lead as Edmisten and Wagner mixed it up for second. The action was slowed with a lap six caution for Danial Kattine. On the restart, Dowdy pulled to a three car lengths lead over Wagner, Edmisten, Marty Huntley, and Joe Ramey. The action was slowed for a second time on lap eight when Shane Murray tagged the front stretch wall, rolling to a stop near turn one. On the restart, Dowdy continued to hold a slight advantage over Kevin Wagner, Marty Huntley, Scott Edmisten, and Joe Ramey. The third and final caution waved on lap thirteen when Darran Kattine got into the back of Chuck Simons as the two entered turn two. On the restart, Dowdy maintained a slight lead over Wagner. Wagner took a look under Dowdy as the two came through turn four. As the two completed lap fourteen Dowdy's lead had shrunk to .045 seconds. Over the next six laps Wagner continued to apply heavy pressure Dowdy for the lead. Wagner looked under Dowdy several times but couldn't complete the pass. Dowdy held on to take the win , rolling across the line .328 seconds ahead of Wagner. Following Dowdy and Wagner across the line were Joe Ramey Mark Morrison, and Scott Edmisten rounding out the top five.
Brian Whiteman and Jeremy Young brought the modified feature field to the green. Whiteman jumped out to the early lead over Mike Gross, Jimmy Stricker, Jeremy Young, and Tommy Riggs. Gross and Witeman mixed it up for the lead until Gross was able to slide by on lap two. Gross and Whiteman continued to set the pace up front while six starting Dave Jamison had moved into third place on lap four. Gross continued to stretch his lead reaching lap traffic on lap six. As Gross worked lapped traffic the battle for second between Whiteman and Jamison heated up, with Jamison sliding into second on lap seven. Gross had built up a large lead when the only caution of the event waved for Ron Strack on lap 10. On the restart, Gross once again began to pull away from Jamison, Jimmy Stricker, Darrell Reno, and Jeremy Young. Gross held on over the next five laps to pick up the feature win, crossing the line .652 seconds ahead of Jamison. Following Gross and Jamison across the line were Jimmy Stricker, Darrell Reno, and Jeremy Young rounding out the top five.
John Gutman and Byron Stowe brought the legend feature field to the green. Gutman jumped out the early lead over Stowe, Tom Partin, Matt Nichols and Steven Partin. Gutman continued to hold the advantage when the first caution waved on lap seven when Tom Partin spun in turn 2. On the restart, Gutman held a slight advantage over Byron Stowe, Pierce Foster, Matt Nichols, and Steven Partin. The second caution of the event waved on lap twelve when Steven Partin spun in turn four. On the restart, Gutman maintained the advantage over Byron Stowe, Matt Nichols, Pierce Foster, and Tom Partin. Gutman held off Stowe over next three laps to pick up his third straight feature win. Following Gutman and Stowe across the line were Tom Partin, Matt Nichols, and Randy Hunt rounding out the top five.
Tommy Mossbarger and Richard Trego brought the bomber feature field to the green. Mossbarger jumped out to the early lead over Trego, Mark Keatzel, Shane Newman, and Chris Hopkins. As Mossbarger stretch his lead the battle between Hopkins and Newman heated up for fourth. Coming out of turn four on lap six Hopkins slid up in front of Newman making contact. The two continued but Newman would retire with a flat left front tire one lap later. Hopkins would take his mount pit side on lap eight. Mean while up front Mossbarger cruised to the feature win. Following Mossbarger across the line was Trego, Keatzel, Josh Bivens, and Mike Brust rounding out the top five.
Mike Strickland and Sean Rush brought the chevette/ 4 cylinder feature field to the green. Strickland jumped out to the early lead followed by Sean Rush, Keith Anderson, Dean Elliot, and Kyle Moore. Strickland stretched his lead in the caution free event, cruising to his the feature win. Following Strickland across the line was Sean Rush, Kyle Moore, Dean Elliot, Matt Nichols, and Keith Anderson rounding out the top five.
Action returns to the 1/3 mile speed plant on Saturday June 14 with Faster Pastor night. Slated for Faster Pastor night is a regular race consisting of late models, modifieds, legends, bombers, chevette/4cylinders, trophy 4 cylinders, and go karts, plus the faster pastor race and an enduro
