Morrison Tops Late Model Field at Brushcreek
(Peebles, Ohio)After taking a week off for the Adams county fair action returned to the 1/3 mile speed plant 3 miles south of Peebles, Ohio, on Saturday July 26. Manchester Ohio's Mark Morrison took his first late model feature win of the year, Sardinia, Ohio's Weasel Rhoads took another modified feature win. Seaman, Ohio's John Gutman picked up the legend feature win, Laurville, Ohio's Jamey Adams picked up another bomber feature win. While Oak hills, Ohio's Mike Strickland picked up another chevette/4cylinder feature win and Peebles Ohio's Gary Rowland picked up his first Trophy 4 cylinder dash win.
Mark Morrison and Marty Huntley brought the late model feature field to the green. Huntley jumped out to the early lead followed by Morrison, Dave Kirker, Clint Jamison and Weasel Rhoads. Huntley continued to hold a slight lead over Morrison who was followed closely by Jamison when a lap four caution would slow the action. On the restart, Huntley held a slight advantage over Morrison and Jamison. Morrison followed Huntley patiently for the next seven laps looking for an opportunity to make the pass. As the two came out of turn four side by side the two shot past the scoring line with Morrison having a slight adavantage. Over the next lap, new leader Morrison would put a lapped car between himself and Huntley who now had his hands full with third running Clint Jamison. Jamison would quickly move around Huntley on lap fourteen. Now in second Jamison could set his eyes on front Morrison. Jamison pulled to the rear deck lid of Morrison, but couldn't make the pass. Morrison held over the final laps to pick up his first feature win this year. Following Morrison across the line was Clint Jamison, Marty Huntley, Dave Kirker, and Joey Dunseith rounding out the top five.
Shaun Scott and Weasel Rhoads brought the modified feature field to the green. Third starting Mike gross jumped out to the early lead, followed by Weasel Rhoads, Shaun Scott, Mike Long and Dave Jamison. The action was quickly slowed with a lap two caution for a four car pile up in turn two. On the restart, Weasel Rhoads shot to the lead followed by Mike Gross, Shaun Scott, Brad White and Dave Jamison. Rhoads continued to hold the point while he worked lapped traffic over the next six circuits. The action was slowed with a lap eight caution. The running order now was Weasel Rhoads, Mike Gross, Shaun Scott, tenth starting Jess Hartman and Dave Jamison. On the restart, Rhoads shot out to the lead over Mike Gross, Shaun Scott, and Jess Hartman. Over the next two circuits Rhoads continued to hold the point while Hartman worked his way to third. On lap eleven Hartman would bag Mike Gross for second. Now in second Hartman would start to run down Rhoads but ran out of laps. Rhoads would hold on for the win. Following Rhoads across the line was Jess Hartman, Mike Gross, Brad White, and Dave Jamison rounding out the top five.
Matt Nichols and Tom Partin brought the legend feature field to the green. John Gutman jumped out to the early lead followed by Matt Nichols, Tom Partin and Gary Rowland. The action was slowed with a lap two caution when Kevin Schoonover spun on the back stretch. On the restart, Gutman jumped out to the lead over Partin, Nichols, Gary Rowland, and Josh Francis. Partin slid by Gutman on lap four to claim the point. Partin held the lead over the next two circuits before Gutman would reclaim it on lap six. Partin slid back by on lap seven to regain the lead, but he would experience mechanical problems on lap eight. The action was slowed with a lap eight caution when Partin rolled to a stop on the back stretch. On the restart, Gutman would have to hold off a strong run by Josh Francis. Francis pulled to the inside of Gutman but couldn't complete the pass. Gutman held on over the final laps to pick up the win. Following Gutman across the line was Matt Nichols, Josh Francis, Steven Partin, and Gary Rowland.
Jamey Adams and Jayme Dailey brought the bomber feature field to the green. Adams jumped out to the early lead over Dailey, Bruce Gray Jr., Shane Newman and Nathon Preston. Dailey followed Adams closely but never could get enough of a run to make the pass on Adams. Adams cruised to the feature win. Following Adams across the line was Jayme Dailey, Bruce Gray Jr. Shane Newman, and Mark Keatzel rounding out the top five.
Mike Stickland and Taylor Grooms brought the chevette/ 4 cylinder feature field to the green. At the drop of the green Strickland jumped out to a four car length lead over Grooms. Grooms would cut the lead into half over the next six circuits but couldn't get any closer. Strickland cruised to the feature win. Following Stickland across the line was Taylor Grooms, Dereck Minshew Eric Baker, and Randy Johnson rounding out the top five.
Action returns to the 1/3 mile speed plant on Friday August 1 and Saturday August 2 for the annual American Heritage Week End. Friday's progam will consist of Modifieds $1000 to win, Legends World Cup-$1000 to win, plus Bombers, Trophy 4 cylinders & Chevette/4 cylinders. No Go-Karts. There will be free camping at the track. All liscensed campers before 7pm will receive Free Admission to Friday Night Racing! Pit Admission $30 Gen.Admission $15. Saturday's program will consist of the 58 Lap American Heritage Modified Race - New Harley or $10,000 to win, plus Late Models & Legends. Pit Admission $35 Gen.Admission $25
