Jamey Adams Bags Bomber Shoot Out at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex
( Peebles, Ohio) After taking the Labor Day week end off, Brushcreek Motorsports returned to action with the $1,000 to win bomber shoot out. Thirty-six bombers signed into the pits, representing some of the region’s best of the class. All with hopes that by the nights end they would be crowned the ‘08 Bomber Shoot Out Champion.
As the warm afternoon sun faded into the cool September night, action heated up on the 1/3 mile speed plant. Laurelville, Ohio’s Jamey Adams picked up the Bomber Shoot out win, Winchester, Ohio’s Weasel Rhoades doing double duty picked up the late model and modified feature wins. Peebles, Ohio’s Matt Nichols took the legend feature win. While Oak hills, Ohio’s Mike Strickland took the Chevette/4 cylinder feature win and Peebles Ohio’s Gary Rowland won the 4 cylinder trophy dash. Waverly, Ohio’s Allan Bach picked up the 4 wheeler race win.
While the fans, drivers, and crew members wondered who would be crowned the ‘08 Bomber Shoot Out Champion, there was another matter to be settled before nights end. Going into the final late model points race Clint Jamison had a slim fourteen point lead over second place Mark Morrison. Jamison looking to lock up his first late model championship had his hopes dashed when he was collected in an early race incident in the late model feature. The damage Jamison suffered in the incident would eventually force him pit side, leaving the door open for Morrison to over take Jamison. With Morrison’s strong second place finish and Jamison’s misfortune Morrison would gain enough point to overtake Jamison by six points in the final standings.
Jamey Adams and John Powell Jr., brought the bomber shoot out feature field to the green. At the drop of the green Adams jumped out to the early lead with Powell, Jim Hilterbran, and Aaron Chesser in tow. Over the first eight circuits, Adams pulled to about a four car length lead while Hilterbran pressured Powell for second. The action was slowed for the first time with a nine lap caution. On the restart, Adams pulled out to a slight lead while Hilterbran continued to pressure Powell for second. The action would be slowed just three laps later when Shane Pendleton spun, bringing the caution out. On the restart, Adams again jumped out to a slight lead while Hilterbran worked on Powell for second. Over the next five circuits Adams slowly built his lead to about four car lengths while Powell and Hilterbran ran side by side. The action was slowed with a lap eighteen caution when Mark Keatzel Jr. spun in turn two. On the restart, Adams pulled to a slight lead while Powell and Hilterbran resumed their battle for second. Just two laps later disaster would strike for second place running Powell when he went off the back stretch then back on before spinning to a stop just short of the wall. He would be able to continue but would be sent to the tail for bringing out the caution. On the restart, Adams pulled out to a slight lead over Hilterbtran. He would hold on over the final five laps to pick up the $1,000 win. Following Adams across the line was Jim Hilterbran, Jayme Dailey, Aaron Chesser, and Brian Whiteman rounding top five.
Mark Morrison and Danail Kattine brought the late model feature field to the green. At the drop of the green the field shot into turn one with third starting Weasel Rhoades emerging with the lead followed by Morrison and Kattine. Weasel continued the hold the point when the action was slowed with a lap two caution for Danial Kattine who spun in turn two, collecting Kevin Wagner and Clint Jamison. Wagner suffered enough damage to end his night, while Jamison continued with have damage in an effort to maintain his points lead. On the restart, Weasel pulled to a slight lead over Morrison, Chris Shannon and Brian Day. Rhoades would stretch his lead to about three car lengths when a lap nine caution slowed the action when Shane Murray spun in turn three. On the restart, Weasel would pull to about three car lengths over Morrison. Rhoades would endure several cautions through the caution filled event holding on to pick up the feature win. Following Rhoades across the line were Mark Morrison, Chris Shannon, Mike Meyers, Danial Kattine.
Dave Pinkerton and Mike Gross brought the modified feature field to the green. Gross jumped out to the early lead followed by Weasel Rhoades, Dave Pinkerton, Dave Jamison and Brian Whiteman. Gross lead the first two laps before third starting Rhoades moved around him on lap three to claim the top spot . Rhoades set a torrid pace reaching the back of the field on lap seven., weaving through lap traffic as Gross chased. Rhoades wouldn’t have any problems working lapped traffic, holding on to pick up the feature win. Following Rhoades across the line was Mike Gross, Brian Whiteman, Dave Pinkerton, and Rob Lemaster
Matt Nichols and Tom Partin brought the legend feature field to the green. As the field shot into turn one Gary Rowland go together bringing out the caution. The two substained enough damage to prevent them form continuing, dropping them out before the race had officially gotten under way. On the restart, Nichols and Partin shot into turn one side by side. With Nichols using his high side momentum to gain the advantage at the line. Nichols used the high side momentum to nip Partin at the line for the next twelve circuits before pushed it to hard coming out of turn four on lap thirteen. Partin would spin but kept going only losing one position. Nichols held on over the final laps to pick up the feature win. Following Nichols across the line was Randy Hunt, Tom Partin, Steven Partin, and Troy Dotson.
Mike Strickland and Troy Cruse brought the chevett/4cylinder feature field to the green. Strickland jumped out to the early lead and never looked back, cruising to the feature win followed by Troy Cruse, Eric Baker, Keith Anderson, Chris Strickland rounding out the top five.
