VANCEBURG, KY-The 2006 season kicked off for Team Christy Racing at the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky for their $2,000 to win season opener on Saturday, April 1st. Since Florence does not time trial, heat race starting position is determined by pill draw. Kenny drew a third place starting position in the second heat, a race in which he stormed to the lead on lap three. While looking good in the lead, steering problems forced Christy to drop out.
That would force the team to go to the B-Main, which took the top four finishers to the thirty lap feature event. Starting 19th with a tough task ahead, Christy charged through the field, passing cars lap after lap. However, Kenny would just run out of laps as he finished fifth in the B-Main, which is pretty impressive after a 19th place start. Of the nights racing action, driver Kenny Christy stated, “If we can get luck on our side, we think it will be a real good year for us.”
Team Christy Racing will return to action this weekend at the K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio for their season opening race, which pays $2,000 to the winner on Saturday, April 8th. In 2003, Kenny won the season opener at K-C which then paid $3,000 to win, beating an all star field of drivers. For more information on the K-C Raceway visit their website at www.kc-raceway.com.
Team Christy Racing would also like to thank all of our sponsors which include LYCO Fuels, Pendleton Truck Sales, Williamson Automotive, Cropper Racing Engines, and A-1 Auto Glass.
