Christy opens 2005 season by winning

VANCEBURG, KENTUCKY-The 2005 Team Christy Racing season started on Friday night, May 6th at the Rocky Top Raceway in Coal Grove, Ohio. In 2004, Kenny finished third in points at Rocky Top and also won two races at the track.
The night started out well as Kenny, with a good qualifying effort, would be in the six car, six lap dash which makes up the first three rows in the A-Main. Kenny would win the dash race, putting him on the pole for the A-Main.
In the A-Main, Kenny would lead the 19 car field for the first seven laps. Then, following a lap seven restart, Kenny would spin, racing hard, and go to the tail. Kenny would have 13 cars to pass and 13 laps to do it. When the green flag would wave, Kenny would be on the move. Kenny picked his way one by one through the traffic and with six to go, he would be in a three car battle for fourth. He would get the position and move all the way up to the third position.
Then, with four laps to go, the caution flag would wave and the field would bunch back up. This eliminated the gap the front two had as Kenny would now only be one car away from leader Terry Hicks. When the green flag waved, Kenny, working on the high side as he did about the whole race, would get by Nick Bocook for third and now would only be a few car lengths behind Terry Hicks for the lead. With three laps to go, in turns three and four, working the high side, Kenny would get an excellent run on Terry Hicks and coming to two laps to go would take the lead as he would go on and win the first race in the 2005 season in a new Rocket Chassis with a new black and red paint scheme by Impact Racing Decals. What an amazing charge coming from the rear of the field to win. A great job by Kenny and the entire crew.
The next night the team would head to the K-C Raceway in Alma, Ohio to race for the $2,000 prize. The night would start off well for Kenny as he would win the evenings first heat race. That would lock Kenny into the A-Main and give him a good starting position. The A-Main would go well as Kenny would finish in ninth place. What a way to start off the 2005 season with a win and a top 10 finish.
The strong finishes this past weekend made Kenny the Late Model driver of the week in the "Inside Ohio Dirt Racing" column featured in the RPM Racing Newspaper written by T. J. Layne. For more information on Team Christy Racing go to their website at www.geocities.com/kennychristyracing.
