For Immediate Release: Boggs Wins MACS’ 5th Annual American Heritage at Brushcreek
Jackie Boggs, Grayson, KY, wired the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series sanctioned 5th Annual American Heritage on his way to claiming his third American Heritage Harley Davidson® for his efforts at Tom and Melissa Parton’s Brushcreek Motorsports, Peebles, OH.
Boggs and “Hot Rod” Rod Conley paced the 24-car starting field for the beginning of the 58-lap event in honor of the late J.C. (Jake) McCann. Boggs snared the early lead followed by Rod and Delmas Conley; defending MACS Champion, Robbie Blair, and Greg Oliver.
Brushcreek, dubbed “Wicked Fast”, was just that as Boggs hurled around the speed plant catching the tail of the field by lap 7. Jackie looked invincible as he lapped the traffic with relative ease, while Rod, Delmas, Robbie, and Greg all gave chase.
The first of two cautions appeared on lap 22 for Billy Williams. Jackie regrouped the field behind with Delmas riding in second over Rod, Robbie and Greg.
On the restart, Boggs once again blasted off leaving the rest to attempt to chase him down. By lap 30, Boggs had again caught the tail of the field. He was trying to shake Delmas, the elder statesman of Southern Ohio, Blair, Rod, and Mike Balzano, who had emerged from his ninth place start.
The second and final caution flew on lap 42 for Marty Huntley who spun in the tri-oval ending tight against the rail. Boggs was still on point over Blair, who had displaced Delmas on lap 38 for second; Rod; and Oliver.
On the restart, Blair was fiercely hounding the leader, but the steady, consistent pace of Boggs found him stretching his lead little by little, lap after lap as he again reached the tail of the field with just 8 laps to go.
Boggs would pass a car and Blair would quickly dispose of it, and that cat and mouse scenario played out until the checkers waved with Boggs taking the victory by .626 seconds over Blair; Delmas and Rod Conley; and Tim Dohm, from twelfth, who was awarded the position after Oliver struck the cone on the final restart which by Series rules resulted in a two position penalty.
Sixth through tenth were Booper Bare, from eleventh; Oliver; Rick Combs; Chuck Harper, from nineteenth; and Jim Bernheisel.
The nightly MACS JRC winner was Cameron Rowe, age 5, Grayson, KY. Cameron was escorted to victory lane and had his picture taken with the feature winner.
