Season starts well for Todd Robinson
By: T. J. Layne
SOUTH POINT, OHIO-The 2005 season has started out well for Todd Robinson Racing. Even though Todd has had some bad luck, in the races without problems, he has yet to finish out of the top ten.
The 2005 season for Todd Robinson would get underway on May 21st at the Portsmouth Raceway Park for their season opener. The night would start off very well for Todd as he would finish second in his heat race. At PRP, the top two in each heat race redraw to make up the top six positions. Todd would redraw the best you can get, the pole. Unfortunately, right before the A-Main, Todd would have some engine problems and wouldn't be able to race. Even though Todd woulnd't be able to start the feature, the night was still a success as it was the first night out with the new GRT chassis that did very well.
The next race would see Todd and the team head out to the Rocky Top Raceway on May 27th. Todd was the 2004 track champion at RTR. Todd would be in a four car battle for the lead all night long between himself, David McWilliams, Eddie Harmon, and Eric Edwards. In the end, Todd would come home with a good third place finish.
The next night, May 28th, Todd would head to the Portsmouth Raceway Park for a makeup race from August 28th, 2004. Todd would have a good starting position for this race but engine problems would plague the team again, the second time in a row at PRP.
The first week of June would see the team do the Rocky Top- Portsmouth Raceway double. On Friday night, June 3rd at Rocky Top, Todd would start in the third position for the A-Main. For the entire A-Main distance, Todd would remain in the third spot, right behind first and second David McWilliams and Eddie Harmon, ready to capitalize if one of them made a mistake. Because fog was setting in at the track, Rocky Top Raceway officials made the call to finish the race on a green-white-checkered at around the halfway point. In the green-white-checkered, Eddie Harmon would spin while battling for the lead as Todd would move his way into the second position as the caution would fly. With more fog setting in, RTR officials made the decision to call the race and make the finishing order the way the lineup for the previous restart was. Unfortunately, that would move Todd back to the third position but it was still another top five finish for the team.
On Saturday night, June 4th, at the Portsmouth Raceway Park, the night would again start out well for Todd. He would finish third in his heat race. At the start of the A-Main, Todd was on the move as by the time he would get to the backstretch on the first lap he would be in the top five. Todd would stay in the top five for the next few laps Unfortunately, while battling in the top five, Todd would spin. With more than half of the race left, Todd would try to move himself forward from the rear. Todd would pick his way right through traffic and at the checkered flag would be side by side with Eddie Harmon. He would come home with the eighth position, another top ten.
The season stats so far for Todd is two top fives and three top tens. Without the engine problems at a couple of the races, the stats would probably include a win and some more top fives. For more info go to www.geocities.com/toddrobinsonracing.
