SKYLINE SPEEDWAY SET FOR 21st ANNUAL HARVEST 50 ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th
Friday, September 17th, Skyline Speedway will play host to its year end spectacular known as the Harvest 50. The $3000 to win race, a favorite among drivers and fans alike, is once again expected to draw a large field of cars from in and around the Mid-Ohio Valley. 2004 marks the 21st running of the historic event.
"This is one of those races where you just never know who is going to show up," said Skyline Speedway promoter Lou Hubbard. "We started advertising for this race about a month ago and my phone has been ringing off the hook ever since. We've had calls from Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana."
Last year's Harvest 50 (complete results below) was one of the most exciting races held at the small 3/8-mile bullring as Richmond, IN's Steve Casebolt used a restart with two laps remaining to dart ahead of Sardinia, OH hotshoe Rick Combs to take the lead and win. Casebolt, who bested a stout field of 43 Late Models, methodically picked his way through the field after starting 17th. In 2002, Greg Mitchell broke the track record during qualifying (with a lap time of 12.22), but it was Tyler Mountain, WV's Steve Lucas who nabbed the victory over Rick Williams and Paul Wilmoth Jr. Other past winners of this event include "The Silver Shark" Scott James, WoO Dirty Dozen member Mike Balzano, and 2004 North-South 100 winner Steve Shaver among others.
Along with the impressive $3000 to win/$200 to start payout for the Late Models, the purse will be increased for the AMRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and 4-Cylinders.
Skyline is a 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval located 14 miles east of Athens, OH, 4.3 miles off US 50 on County Road 53.
Gates for this event are slated to open at 4pm with Hot Laps rolling onto the speedway at 7pm. For more information, call the track at 740-661-4111 or visit their website at www.skylinespeedway.com.
